Establish a center at every major hospital that can organize prehabilitation before operations, writes Hanne Tönnesen and colleagues in a debate article in Läkartidningen. Hanne Tönnesen is professor, chief physician, surgeon and director of WHO Collaborating Center at Lund University.

From the debate article: "Patient safety in surgery can be improved by preoperative optimization, i.e. changing modifiable lifestyle factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, malnutrition, obesity and low physical activity or performance. Knowledge of the benefits of preoperative interventions among both medical staff and patients needs to increase".
